Went on a great mountain-bike ride today.

Enjoying Maffeys Road

Wednesday, January 19th, 2005

We’re enjoying being on the hill in Christchurch. The combination of sea and sky, the weather, the light, human activities like kite-surfing, kayaking and sailing, mean the vista is constantly changing. A few pictures are online, like this sunset.

Back in sunny Christchurch once more… Will update the blog with the last few weeks of our trip when time allows…

Colmar

Tuesday, October 5th, 2004

In the heart of the Alsace wine region. Plan to meet with Anne Rowland tonight, and reach Strasbourg on Friday 8, leaving for England on the 10th. Great autumn weather recently, but rain expected tomorrow.

Mazamet -> Carcassonne, 57km

Wednesday, July 7th, 2004

Awake early but heavy showers keep us in the tent until the weather finally clears around 10am. Climb up the Mont Noir to the tiny medieval village of Hautpool with good views of the steep-sided valley in the Parc Naturel Rgional du Haut Languedoc. The tavern looked attractive but we spend our time chatting with […]

St-Gervais-sur-Mare -> Mazamet, 94km

Monday, July 5th, 2004

Up at 5:30am for a big day. Solid climb up 600m from Audabre to la Croix de Mounis with superb early-morning views of the Falaises d’Orque (great for base-jumping?). Steady, level riding through farmland to Murat-sur-Vèbre, where we stop for supplies. Past pleasant lake-land around Luc du Lauzas and we make good time to la […]

St-Bauzille de Putois -> opp. la Vernede, 9km

Friday, July 2nd, 2004

A cruisy sleep-in till 8:30am - luxury! Simple café and toast on Collete’s balcony. We pack to go, but find that Colette has already prepared food for the day’s main meal at lunchtime (our hesitancy at French catches us out). Instead so some errands at La Poste, and Jonathan gets his hair cut ultra-short. We […]

Vebron -> Valleraugue, 50km

Wednesday, June 30th, 2004

Up early for the cool of the morning. Gentle riding through countryside (similar to the Mangles road near Murchison), the solid ‘moderate’ climbing to Col de Perjuret (1031m), then through forest to sleepy Cabrillac, and continue climbing to the summit of Mont Aigoual (1567m). We soak in the views and peruse the meteo (weather) exposition. […]

Apt -> Cavaillon, 58km

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

Leave campground at 9am but get bamboozled by lack of signs and wind up backtracking to information centre; grrr. Steep climb out of Apt and just before Bonnieux Jonathan gets his third flat tyre. Buy a baguette and croissant at pretty Bonnieux and enjoy a coffee creme. On to Lacoste and a peek at the […]

Cabo de Gato -> Benicarló

Saturday, June 5th, 2004

Day 19. We’re up early but wind up waiting till 9am for the camp office to open. Across the peninsula in San José we swim and drink coffee, then get down to driving (that is; Dan driving and the rest of us navigating :-/ ). We slide past the tourist horror of Benidorm to the […]

Malaga -> Almayate, Day 10, 30k

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

Up at 8am and wander quiet Malaga streets; most businesses closed. Breakfast is cafe con leche and a bocadillo y jamon. Shopping at El Corte Inglés for camping gas and groceries. Leave Malaga at 1:30pm, around waterfront on pedestrian/cycle path. We stop for bbq sardines, fries and cervesa and continue riding along the flat coastline. […]

Well ok, just the other side of this ’small blue thing’.
